Power Your Future with a Farm Solar System.
Solar Panels for Your Farm and Agricultural Operations.
Farm power bills don't look like house bills.
A grain dryer, a shop, barn fans and yard lights add up, and every rate increase lands on all of it. A system sized to your farm's yearly use cuts the energy part of that bill for decades. The delivery charges stay, so we show you which part of the bill solar changes before you decide.
What to know before you get farm solar quotes
Roof, shop or ground. Shop and barn roofs are usually the lowest-cost spot if they face south, east or west and have plenty of life left. A ground mount costs more to build, but we can set the angle for winter sun and snow, and keep panels off buildings that see dust and moisture. We can price both so you can compare.
Your electrical service shapes the design. Many farms run on single-phase service, and some have three-phase for big motors. The service type, the transformer and the distance from the meter all affect which inverters we use and how big the system can be. We check all three on the site visit.
Sized to your use, approved by your utility
Sized to what your farm uses in a year. Alberta's micro-generation rules size a system to the electricity the site has used in a year. If you're adding load, like a new barn or an EV, the utility will want proof before it counts it. We design from twelve months of your bills, not from a rule of thumb.
The company that owns your lines sets the schedule. In rural Alberta that's often FortisAlberta, ATCO or a rural electrification association, and each reviews micro-generation applications on its own timeline. We prepare and submit the application and keep you posted.
Planned around your season, installed by our own crew
Winter and snow. Panels make less power from November to January and far more from April to August, so judge a system on the whole year. Snow usually slides or melts off within a few clear days, and a steeper ground mount sheds it faster.
Timing. Site work takes a few days, but a project runs about one to three months from signing to install, and the utility's review is usually the longest step. Many farmers plan over the winter so the system is producing by spring. We book site work around seeding, harvest and calving.
Our own crew. We don't subcontract the solar work. Every system is installed by our own Red Seal electricians and apprentices, with a Master Electrician on site. The one outside trade is screw piling for ground mounts, which we arrange as part of the job. We handle the permits, the utility application and commissioning.

"Had an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish with GreenAmp! They even drove over 5 hours south to install in an area of Southern Alberta that larger companies won’t service."
At Greenamp Solar & Energy, we design custom solar systems for farms and agricultural operations. Panels can go on barns, shops, farmhouses and other buildings, or on ground-mount and raised ground-mount racking on open land.

Power Your Farm’s Future with Greenamp
Start with your power bills. Send us twelve months of farm bills and a few photos of where you'd put the panels. We'll come back with a design, a price with no hidden fees, and the reasoning behind both. No pressure, and no hour-long presentation.
THE GREENAMP PROCESS
From the site visit to switch-on, we handle the design, permits, utility application, install and commissioning, and we're still your contact after that. Once your system is producing, we'll walk you through options like the Solar Club™ and carbon offset programs.
Frequently Asked Questions about Farm and Agriculture Solar Systems
Straight answers to the questions farmers ask us most. If yours isn't here, ask us on the site visit.
-
Most farms have at least one good spot: a large shop or barn roof that faces south, east or west, or open ground with no shade from trees, bins or buildings. We also check how much life the roof has left, your electrical service, and how far the site is from your meter. If solar doesn't make sense for your farm, we'll tell you.
-
Lower and more predictable energy costs, less exposure to rate increases, and a system that keeps producing for decades with little upkeep. How much you save depends on your use, your site and your rate, so we show the math for your farm instead of a general promise.
-
Some farm businesses may qualify for the federal Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit, but eligibility depends on how the farm is structured, and many farms don't qualify. Other programs change over time. We'll confirm what applies to your farm, and give you the paperwork your accountant needs, before you count on any of it.
-
Yes, your farm stays connected to the grid. The utility installs a bi-directional meter that records power flowing both ways, and you still draw from the grid at night and on short winter days. Unless you choose an off-grid design with batteries, the grid stays your backup.
-
It depends on how much power you use, the size of the system and your electricity rate, so we don't quote a payback period over the phone. After we've seen twelve months of your bills, we give you a payback estimate in writing with the assumptions shown, so you or your accountant can check it.
-
For many farms, yes, especially ones with steady daytime loads and an unshaded spot for panels. Alberta is one of the sunniest provinces in Canada, and long summer days do much of the work. It's less likely to pay off if the roof needs replacing soon, the site is shaded, or you plan to sell in a few years. We'll tell you which side of that line your farm is on.
-
Yes. Panels make less power from November to January because the days are short, and snow on the panels stops production until it slides or melts off, usually within a few clear days. Most of a system's yearly output comes in spring and summer, so judge it on the whole year, not on a winter month.
-
Very little. Rain and snow do most of the cleaning. Check your monitoring now and then, keep ground mounts clear of tall grass and parked equipment, and call us if production drops. Dust from a busy yard or grain handling can call for an occasional rinse.
-
Solar power runs anything grid power runs: pumps, barns, shops, bins, lighting and equipment. Alberta's micro-generation rules size a system to the farm's yearly use, so we design around your actual bills, and you keep drawing from the grid when the panels aren't producing.
-
We book site work around seeding, harvest and calving, and most installs take a few days on site. Before we start, we agree on where trucks and equipment go, and we leave the site clean when we're done.
