Shops, warehouses and offices use most of their power during the day, which is when solar produces. A system sized to that daytime load cuts the electricity you buy from the grid, and keeps cutting it for decades. Delivery and demand charges stay on the bill, so we show you which part of your bill solar changes before you decide.
What to know before you get commercial solar quotes
Roof or ground. Flat roofs, metal roofs and shop roofs can all carry solar if the roof has plenty of life left and the structure can take the weight. If the roof is small, shaded or due for replacement, a ground mount on open land beside the building is the other option. We check the roof’s age and structure on the site visit before we design anything.
Size sets the path. Under 150 kW AC is small micro-generation: power you send to the grid is credited at your retail energy rate, and most projects take about 3 to 6 months from signing to switch-on. At 150 kW AC and up, surplus is credited at the hourly pool price and the utility’s review can take much longer. We tell you which side of that line your project sits on before any formal proposal.
Sized to your load, approved by your utility
Sized to what your building uses in a year. Alberta’s micro-generation rules size a system to the electricity the site has used. If you’re adding equipment or a new building, the utility will want proof before it counts that load. We design from twelve months of bills and your operating hours.
Your utility sets the schedule. EPCOR, FortisAlberta, ATCO or a rural electrification association reviews each application on its own timeline. We prepare and file the building, electrical and micro-generation applications, answer the utility’s questions and keep you posted.
Planned around your operation, installed by our own crew
Built around your hours. We schedule the install around your business hours and your busy season, so your work keeps moving. Flat roofs and ground mounts can be built through the winter.
Numbers your accountant can check. Incorporated businesses may qualify for the federal Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit. Whether yours does depends on how the business is set up, so confirm it with your accountant. We supply the system details they’ll ask for.
Our own crew. We don’t subcontract the solar or electrical work. Every system is installed by our own Red Seal electricians and apprentices, with a Master Electrician on site, and they tie it into your main electrical service. We handle the permits, the utility application and commissioning.

We model production conservatively for your site, apply your actual energy rate, and show the yearly savings range and payback in writing, with the assumptions listed so your accountant can check them. It depends on the system size, roof or ground mount, and how the system ties into your electrical service. Larger systems usually cost less per watt, while roof work, structural checks or a long run to the meter add cost. We give you a written quote after the site review, and the quoted price is the price you pay.

Incorporated businesses may qualify for the federal Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit, depending on how the business is set up. Other programs open and close, so we confirm what applies to your business before you count on it, and give your accountant the system documents they need.

Yes, you stay connected to the grid. A bi-directional meter records power going both ways. Under 150 kW AC, power you send to the grid is credited at your retail energy rate. At 150 kW AC and up, it’s credited at the hourly pool price. You still draw from the grid at night and on short winter days.

We look at roof space, direction and shade, the roof’s age and structure, and your electrical room: the size of the main service and where the system can tie in. If the roof isn’t a good fit, open land beside the building may suit a ground mount. We check all of it on the site visit.

First a load review: twelve months of bills and your operating hours. Then a site visit to the roof or yard and the electrical room; on larger roofs we may map the roof with a drone. Next, a written proposal with the layout, equipment, production estimate and payback. We then file the building, electrical and micro-generation applications, and our own crew installs and commissions the system.

Lower and more predictable energy costs, less exposure to future rate increases, and a system that produces for decades with little upkeep. How much you save depends on your load, your site and your rate, so we show the math for your building rather than a general promise.

Most of Alberta’s electricity comes from natural gas, so power you make on site replaces some of what you’d buy from the grid. If your customers or head office ask for it, we can give you the system’s yearly production figures for your reporting.

Yes. Panels make less power from November to January because the days are short, and snow on the panels stops production until it slides or melts off, usually within a few clear days. Most of a system’s yearly output comes in spring and summer, so judge it on the whole year, not on a winter month.

Very little. There are no moving parts, and rain and snow keep the panels clean on most sites; a site with heavy dust may need an occasional rinse. Monitoring shows you if production drops, and a visual check of the array and connections every so often catches problems early.
